What is happiness ?
Whether happiness can ever be achieved in this human life?
Happiness is a state of mind and
body where the mind and body feel that it is a state to be tagged to for ever.
But human life is so complicate and intricate that Happiness even if achieved
cannot be sustained for long. The reason
being human body and mind crave for more and more of it or looses interest in
things already in hand. Basically this
is due to the illusion that Happiness is in things around you or attached to
you, which is not. A lover lounging for
his love may not sustain the same interest when once they are married or after
a period of time. The reason being happiness not available in things around us
or attached to us.
There is a small parable in India that, the Muskdeer ,
which is famous for its famous musk aroma things that it is somewhere else and
runs and runs in search of it , only to be hunted by its poachers. The paradox is that , the fragrance is well
under its belly. So is human life ,
where human beings run after worldly pleasure under the delusion that Happiness
is which is in things around them or in the worldly pleasures , only to become
dejected in the finally.
The reasons for the aimless
pursuit is not within reasons . Human
life is a journey through various stages of life , where each stage has its own
attractions of worldly happiness. A kid
of four years is happy with chocolates , candies thinking that possession them
is the way to happiness. A boy /girl of
early teens is very much engrossed in looking beautiful/ to be more intelligent than his /her friends
. A man /woman in his early twenties is
very busy in achieving academic achievements or showcasing his /her talent or
securing job in good organization with good salary. Then comes the life of a householder where
earning is the prime concern. At each
stage of life life is a run for mirage of happiness . But
like mirage , the happiness is never at a static place and goes on changing
ever. Ultimately, when hardly few people
seem to learn that life is a big mirage, it is too late.
Happiness
is well within every human being. It
only needs to be discovered and
sustained. This is what the Hindu philosophy more clearly
manifested by Lord Krishna in Sri
Bhagavadgita.. The world is an illusion
or ‘MAYA” where what looks real is unreal and what looks unreal is real. But it is far from the scientific way of
knowing things . In science what is not
proved is not real or not in existence.
Has anyone ever wondered that what makes human life/ life possible.
It is the force of divinity in every living being which is the source of
sustenance , which cannot be perceived with even best of scientific
gadgets. This is what is called “ SOUL”
in every living being. But a word of
caution, it has nothing to do with the actions of the living creatures. Its purpose is only to sustain the life and
nothing more nothing less. What we see
as actions of all kinds of all living thins are the manifestations of the intellect
/ brain . But mind is where the actions
of brain create a sense of code /language for the living things.
Whether
Happiness can really be achieved in this world.
Absolutely yes but, not by attachment but by detachment towards
worldly things and turning the mind inwards towards the
omnipresent Soul within . This is a
process which cannot happen overnight or
over a year or over a decade.
Turning mind and body inwards will certainly make the human beings happy
, but that is not the end of all . Attainment of everlasting happiness or bliss what is the goal of every human
beings. This is what every religion from
Bible to Bhagavadgita speak of . heaven or hell . This is where visiting holy
places, reciting holy books and doing
religious practices , doing charity work come into picture. But these are only the fundaments principles
of conduct to be followed on the long and arduous journey of attaining eternal bliss.
How Happiness in this world or in a higher plane eternal bliss
can be achieved is a point of debate of all religions , which say ours
is the only religion which can never be .
As no human beings are similar , the sacred scriptures are only the
guiding principles , every human being has to work out his way for eternal
bliss. All religious books,
practices are only the guiding
principles on the path to eternal bliss.
Putting simply , the car is your body , your mind is your driver, the
road is your religious books, practices,
but finally the destination is to be worked out with a perfect coordination of
body, mind and religion.
